An Education

Now I believe myself to be a responsible pet owner, but yesterday I got an education. Poor little Farrah got so sick Wednesday night, I was up with her almost all night. She had a bad case of diarrhea, so we were going out into the night every little while. I was thinking at this rate she won't make it long and I was worried. When she got up the next morning she was packing her back leg and not the happy puppy she usually is. I decided to call my friend Vickies vet, her dog ate rocks and had to have two surgeries, and she had nothing but good thing to say about this vet. He was in surgery, but we decided to wait until afternoon and see him anyway. I was so impressed by the time he spent with me explaining all Farrah's ailments. I would like to have a Doctor this caring for myself. Seems she has a bacterial infection, from me feeding her meats, and little goodies from the table. I thought meat was good for dogs, but found out it is one of the worst things to give them, one little slice of roast beef can cause a infection in some dogs. I had been giving Farrah a lot of meat lately. So, no more table scraps, the vet says, some dogs are just garbage guts and can handle anything, but some are very sensitive. The pain in her legs are growing pains, has some big long medical term which transalates into growing pains. The tendions on the long bones become inflamed. Yes I was feeding her to much, he told me to start giving her adult food now and only what is bag recommends for her weight (60) pounds. He gave her all her meds, and with in an hour she was a different dog. He said Dogie day care is very good for her but only 2 days a week and no more than 4 hours a day for a while. She will be taking about 5 pills a day for the next 4 days. We will both be breaking a lot of bad habits. Now if she stops chewing the lattice fence, and the house, and the Posts on the patio, we will all be happy.

Thank you Dr. Doughty.

Has Facebook taken over? Seems no one blogs any more. The only one we have to rely on is our friend Vickie and her dog Bert. Farrah goes to Vickie's Dogie Day Care, to learn to how get along with other dogs and to play, so dad and I can have some peace and quite once in a while. She goes 2 or 3 days a week, and it was a god send when dad was in the hospital and the rehab center. Vickie's blog is written through Bert's eyes and is a hoot to read. She has such a way with words. She posts lots of pictures of the dogs that come to stay there, and every now and again Farrah is a star. Dad is getting along pretty well.
He has therapy 3 times a week and is walking with a cane. He doesn't have to much pain or a least he doesn't complain, he can't do to many things yet but does what he can. We chose the out patient therapy because it gets him out of the house. He goes to his personal Doctor on Tuesday, and to the surgeon for ex-rays on the 22nd. So we are hoping for the best and that every thing is healing well, and yes Ryan he is still wearing you Alaska hat. He wore it in the Hospital and in the Rehab center. Sorry I didn't get a picture for you of Grandpa in his hospital bed with his hat on.
